FAQ's about using the wireless network:
How does it work?
A wireless access point located in the library communicates with your wireless device. You should be able to connect almost anywhere in the building. When your wireless network card senses a signal, a message may appear on your screen indicating a wireless network is available. Our wireless network can be identified by the name wayne_library_wifi. Open your browser. You will be redirected to a screen with a user agreement which you will have to acknowledge by check-marking before you can continue.
If your laptop does not have wireless built-in, you can install a WiFi-compatible network card. The Library cannot guarantee your equipment will work with the Library's network. Please be advised that other than verifying that the wireless network is operational, we cannot offer any individual assistance / troubleshooting to help patrons establish a connection. Users must know how to configure their own equipment.
Will I need any special settings or passwords to connect?
No special encryption settings, user names, or passwords are required.
Is my information safe while using wireless?
Your information is not protected while using wireless, unless you are connected to a web page that employs encryption (stores, banks, etc.) Keep this in mind if you are accessing sensitive business or personal information.
Are there any restrictions on my use of the Internet?
Wireless users agree to abide by the Guidelines for Internet Use which prohibits abusive or illegal activity while using the Library's Internet service. The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library's network.
Can I print from the wireless network?
Yes! Please see a staff member at the Adult Reference Desk for information on how to connect to our wireless printer, or download instructions here (for laptop computers). The cost is .15 per page.
